HANSON IS GOTH:
Darkness Darkness Everywhere
So, you think that Hanson is cheerful, happy, the absolute zenith of frothy
feel-goodness? Well you're wrong. Yep. Hanson is goth. And in the following,
we will attempt to show you exactly how close to the forces of darkness they really are. Clue # 1: Middle of Nowhere If there is such an animal as industrial pop, this album is certainly it.
Just listen to Man From Milwaukee or A Minute Without You. Talk about whallop.
A veritable wall of sound exsists in both of those songs. Now where else in nature does this
phenomina occour you ask? Who else has been described many a time as being
industrial? Why it must be that former master of all thinks dank, Marilyn Manson. Clue # 2: Hanson goes glam Now let us consider what happened to Marilyn Manson. First he's the Prince of Darkness, proudly proclaiming
himself the founder and originater of all things brooding and misunderstood. He pulls off his own fingernails
in his videos. He wallows in blood, paints his face and acts all mean and scary. Fine. But then he got sick of it.
Just like his bud Courtney Love, he soon tired of all that downhearted stuff. So he did the only logical thing.
He went glam. Suddenly he's got pink hair, likes techno and rhinstones and Studio 54. And here's the kicker, Hanson did too.
Yes they certainly did. They scrub it for a while, wearing jeans and sneakers. Then came the Grammy Awards, where they were decked in
enough leather and black sparkles for a small disco-clad army. Clue# 3: With You in Your Dreams Very sad song. Very very sad song. It's about death, loss, bad stuff.
Very brodding. Very goth.
Clue # 4: The I Will Come to You Video Now we're not sure whether this is an actual reflection of Hanson's
inate gothicness, or if this was merely a reflection of the gothic type trends that were happening around that time. Check out Ike and
Tay leaning against the brick wall. Sad faces. All dressed in black. I believe Zachary is wearing a baseball cap
that has a large silver logo item on the front. Very industrial. Very goth. And how about the girl in the video?
Long dark hair. Witchy. Stevie Nicks. Goth. Clue # 5: The Gus Van Sant connection The man directs ghastly things like My Own Private Idaho and Psycho and Good Will Hunting even.
Swearing. Disturbed people. An inevitable amount
of screaming. And did anyone see the jacket he wore at last year's Oscars? Let's just say that it was
probably designed by the same people who brought you the Zachary quilted pants.
Very shifty personality I'd say. And just look at the crop of five-star freaks he got for
the Weird video. Hmm
looks mighty goth to me.
Clue # 6: A certain Hanson's attire Ever notice Taylor's yellow t-shirt with the skull on it? The one he wore to the Jonny Lang concert, and how about the one he's wearing in the
"studio picture" on Hansonline? There is some gosh darn goth looking writing on that shirt, yes sir. (Corinne's thought is that is says Hysteria, Bloody Hysteria. Tay, did you visit Salem or something
while you were here last summer? There is no way you can
overlook the gothicness of that.)
And it's red even. The color of blood. Taylor has gothic
tendencies, yes he does. We also won't mention his affinity for black
Clue # 7: Wicket What exactly did happen to that dog? |
