The group Hanson blasted onto
the music scene in 1997 with their chart-topping megahit "MMMBop,"
and their mega-selling debut album, Middle of Nowhere.
After touring the world they
hit the studio again and released their second album, This Time Around,
in 2000.
These days brothers Isaac,
21, Taylor, 18, and Zac, 16, are even more in charge of their careers,
writing and producing their own songs and experimenting with new sounds.
They told us about life in
the Hanson household before they became household names.
Q. Did you guys fight much
when you were kids?
Taylor: Our fights were rare, but when we did get in a fight, it
was full-on--on the ground, rolling around, kicking--all the way. One
time, Zac broke his nose.
Zac: I actually got my nose broken twice--once by each brother--but
it was not on purpose.
Once, "Ike" (Isaac)
and I were wrestling. I flew through the air and landed on a wooden chair
with my face.
The second time, "Tay"
(Taylor) and I were messing around on a teeter-totter, and it was Tay's
turn to jump on the end. I went to my end, he stepped on his end, and
once again I was launched through the air by my face.
Q. What was your favorite
thing to do when you were kids?
Zac: When we were young, we had a large collection of Legos. We liked
action figures and cars and all that stuff.
Taylor: We used to play street hockey all the time. We'd get together
with some of our friends and get rowdy--hours of throwing each other on
the cement. It was fun!
Q. Did you guys share a
room when you were growing up?
Zac: Yes. The bad thing is that with three people in a room, you've
got three times as many dirty clothes and three times less space. But
it was fun, because you always had somebody to talk to.
Taylor: The main problem was the smell. Dirty socks, piles of clothes--our
parents would walk in with Lysol spray.
Q. Describe your brothers.
Zac: I'm more serious; Ike is probably the most goofy.
Taylor: Yeah, Ike is known for doing funny voices. He's also very
creative and good with technical things, so he can always figure things
out--it's just the way he thinks. Zac has always been very opinionated.
He knows exactly what he wants.
Isaac: Zac is the most honest of the three of us.
