Dear Jackie,

your most recent update and comments about SWK (Say What Karaoke, July 15, 2000) sparked my email to you.

hmm i'm not quite sure why i'm rambling to you, a stranger, about a common interest--Hanson. except for that i found your comments amusing and thought i'd share some of my own. ;)

thanks,
april

I think viewing "the list" and "SWK" back to back made it clear that Hanson has a lot of respect for women. I think we, as Hanson fans, read a lot into Hanson's every move, and most of the time that's foolish. but in this case, it seems obvious.

With Isaac's "sharon stone" comment (He was teasing a co-presenter, Paula, when she sprawled herself over the host of the "The List" on VH1.), I think he was serious about her behaving more "lady like."   But that could just be me. ;)

Then, a few moments later when Paula said something like, "I'll go sit in my chair now" both Isaac and Taylor said, "Please!"  To me, it came across as them saying, "Do you even realize you're behaving like this on national television!"

I also found it enjoyable how riled Isaac got about the Billy Joel topic. It was apparent they were there to talk about music, no matter how silly the host and other panelist got.

Then of course, "SWK" happened. Okay, first of all, I was really worried that someone (not necessarily a Hanson but, maybe) would make a rude comment about Tiffany (a larger, but very spirited contestant). hehe  I guess I'm silly to "worry" about things but there I was, sitting there on my sofa watching a show I never watch and I was honestly thinking, "I hope no one says anything mean. I hope no one says anything mean. I hope no one says anything mean." And then I was relieved when everything went fine and Taylor said she was, "da bomb."

Stripper girl--I LOVED when Zac gonged her (which ended her hopes of winning). Again, to me it came across as him gonging her cause they thought she was making a fool of herself.

Of course, all of this just might be what I WANT them to think. ;) You know how that works.

And, like you, I would love to have overheard the conversation on the way home. I remember the days when they weren't allowed on the "rupaul show" and now this!

On the whole subject of Hanson respecting women, I think it speaks very well of both of their parents, but particularly their mother. I once heard Isaac say something along the lines of "If wholesome equals not constantly swearing, not talking derogatory about women, then in that case I guess we'll take wholesome."

I just think in the day of Eminem's style of rap, it's refreshing to see three hormonally charged boys seeming to have respect for females. ;)

Note to April:
I really couldn't have worded this any better!!  Thanks for bringing this to my attention!!
