secrets and lies
How are they able to find ways to keep the faithful busy, even
during a studio absence? Well, if you're a faithful fan,
you've probably picked up on a common theme in Hanson's music
and public interviews: "things you'll never know."
Apparently, it's a theme they haven't dropped for the next album
either. In the November 25, 1999 issue of Rolling Stone,
the guys mention a song Taylor wrote recently entitled, "You
Never Know." This song title got me thinking about
the secrets Hanson keep and the ones they've revealed. One
of the reasons I respect Hanson is their ability to keep a secret,
and of course, as my friend Laura put it so eloquently, it's "no
fun having all the answers."
The Internet provides overwhelming
temptation when it comes to digging into people's lives, and
I did not intend this page to be a forum for scolding those
budding journalists for the "Enquirer." I selected
the items on these lists based on lyrics, interviews and appearances
in an attempt to be amusing. At the same time, I believe
that when we keep secrets, it's a way of showing respect to
the people we admire. Feel free to contribute your thoughts.
(Thanks to Laura, for provoking thoughtful discussion on the
topic of secrets and lies!)

| a word on individual
authorship
Yet another observation
from the Rolling Stone article: I realized
that when the band mentioned the song You Never
Know, it was remarkable for more than just the
fact that they revealed another possible track for
the next album. This is the first piece that
the band has ever credited to Taylor alone.
As I see it the list of individual authorship stands
like this:
Isaac:
Rain, More Than Anything, Speechless
Taylor: You Never Know
Zac: Man from Milwaukee

magazine that he drives a 1986 Ford Econoline van.
** According to Vicky,
Hanson told MuchMusic that Wickit died of rat poisoning

. . . is [ZAC'S] DIRTBIKE PEOPLE!!!! He jokingly refers to his
motorcycle as Betsy...a derivative of the often used "bessie"
for a cowboy's horse. Anyone feeling, well...silly?
