SO, YOU WANNA READ SOME STUFF?
Fiction-a-Thon

Here it is, kids. We've got a truckload of participating writers, and we think you should check out the work of every single one. If someone's not writing, if there are broken links, if you see any other general breakage of the rules or mistakes in the listings, let us know and we'll crack the whip and stuff. (No, not like in ice skating. Although that does look like an awful lot of fun.) OK. That's all. GO READ! Wanna join? Keep reading...

THE PULP PRINCESSES HAVE HIT A LURCH, BABY.

They're stagnant and bored and in the mood to write good, important things. Except they're lazy. Very very lazy. And they're sick of it. So they've decided to embark on a project. Hopefully, this project will kick them out of their Hanson-like dry spell and get them moving and creating things and thinking beyond the realm of, "Hm. Where am I going to be living/working in six months?" Minor concerns like that.

So, do you wanna come? Because you can if you want. We've got room in the back seat, if you don't mind Hanson on the radio and all of those books and magazines and crap on the floor. We didn't think you would.

But I'm telling you, you can't come if a) you don't follow the rules, and if b) you get all upset when we make fun of Taylor, or c) you start being a party pooper. OK? OK. So if you do all of this crap that we're going to list for you right below this paragraph, we won't leave you on the side of the road somewhere, kicking and screaming and pissed, like in Anywhere but Here.

THE FICTION-A-THON RULES:
  1. You have to write every single night between December 15 and January 15. No excuses. OK, you get two excuses. And when you use them, you need to record the date somewhere where we can see it. Or else, you're booted. Like in that movie.
  2. You have to produce at least 300 words a night. And that's that.
  3. Post your story somewhere. (A LiveJournal, or a Blog would work smashingly if you're not in the mood to fiddle with HTML.) If you send us your link, we'll post it. You'll get hits. Your saga will be read and loved and you will be immortal.
  4. You have to put the fiction-a-thon banner on either a) your story, or b) your website somewhere. Or, you know what happens, right? Good.
  5. We strongly recommend that you work on one story continuously, not 30 short-shorts or vingettes or whatever the literary world (Ha...) is calling them these days. Hey. We know it's hard. Why do you think we need an entire set of stupid rules to make us do it? I mean, if you're stuck with a plot that's killing you and you hate it, dump it. Just don't do it more than once a week.
A WORD ABOUT CONTENT:
  1. If you're writing sex, make sure it's a) classy b) in context, and c) not the only major plot point of your story. Don't get us wrong. Erotica done well is fab, but it's usually housed in its own environment so that those not wanting to read about the fictional bedroom exploits of Taylor Hanson will visit our site again in the future. It is not our responsibility to disclaim your adult content. As a courtesy, please warn your readers in advance when your story contains violent, sexual or other questionable content.
  2. Your story can be about whatever and whoever you want. It can be fiction or nonfiction. It doesn't need to be about Hanson. It can be a piece that you've already started, or something that you're revising. It's about words on a page. That's all.

WELL SIGN ME UP:
  1. Send us an e-mail containing your a) name, b) the title of your story, c) the URL where you plan to post it.
  2. Wait for a confirmation e-mail from us.
  3. Stick a banner on your page. We'll post your link when you post it.
  4. When December 15 gets here, start writing. Joining after December 15? Fine. Write for a month. We'll keep your link posted until you're done, and probably long after. Don't sweat it.
  5. Check the website for your link and read all of the other stories.
THE GOALS:
  1. To write good stuff.
  2. To assemble a cool little set of links to fiction written by PULP readers/visitors.
  3. To give everyone something to do while we're waiting for that supposed, alleged album.
